Speech and Language Pathologist

Introduction:

I am a DOH-licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) with over six years of diverse and comprehensive clinical experience. My professional background spans across various settings including schools, hospitals, and specialized rehabilitation centers. My expertise is extensive in neurorehabilitation, focusing on restoring communication and swallowing function following neurological events. My experience as a speech-language pathologist and audiologist has equipped me with a strong foundation in assessing, diagnosing, and treating a wide range of communication disorders amongst individuals with various communication and swallowing challenges across a vast spectrum of severity; including language, learning, and literacy difficulties; speech impairments; fluency disorders; voice disorders; and cognitive communication impairments. I am skilled in developing and implementing individualized treatment plans tailored to each individual's unique needs and learning style. I am also proficient in collaborating with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to therapy. I am committed to delivering the highest standard of care, ensuring every client receives effective, evidence-based therapy to regain confidence and connection.


Therapeutic Approach: 

I am committed to Patient and Family-Centered Care. I develop individualized therapy plans tailored to the individual’s unique clinical presentation, functional goals, and personal communication needs. I maintain a flexible approach, adapting strategies as progress is made. I prioritize a whole language approach, targeting underlying difficulties simultaneously to promote holistic development and recovery. I engage in collaborative consultation within the multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal outcomes. I ensure all strategies and goals are culturally sensitive and respectful of each individual’s background and values. 


Client Experience: 

My goal is to make the therapeutic journey transparent, supportive, and successful for both the individual and their support system. I provide Personalized, Collaborative Care by defining goals together, ensuring they are relevant and meaningful. I maintain regular follow-ups keeping the individual and their family informed on progress, and I welcome and value your input. I provide focused support, and strategies to parents and caregivers to facilitate the carryover and generalization of learned skills and strategies into everyday environments. 


Personal interests: 

Beyond the clinic, I engage in creative tasks such as journaling and painting. I deeply value family time and draw inspiration from exploring nature. 


Credentials: 

Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Therapy and Audiology from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. 


Certifications and training: 

Certified in VitalStim Therapy (Electrical Stimulation and SEMG Biofeedback) for the evidence-based treatment of dysphagia (swallowing disorders).

My commitment to clinical excellence is maintained through regular engagement in Continued Professional Development (CPD) workshops, conferences, and research; ensuring I integrate the latest research and evidence-based practices into my treatment.
